Some of the big 35mm telephotos take this size. I think some of the centre filters for the really huge coverage LF wide angles also have these for front mounting.

Once upon a time, yes - the current super teles all seem to have 52mm filter trays and a proprietary front bayonet mount for shades (if not integrated). But I remember 1980's vintage manual focus Nikon super teles where the polarizer went in the thread on front, for easy manipulation, and earlier ones won't have had a filter tray at all. Sizes above 100mm were common, but I have no idea whether any of them had exactly 120mm.

I think I have some Heliopan 120mm stepping rings to allow it to be used on smaller lenses.....let me know if you have a need.
I've got the smaller brother, the 105mm. It fits to my lens using a Lee Filters holder.

Two lenses that do are the 360mm .8 Symmar-S and the Russian Narciss MTO-1000-A 1000mm 11.0 lens.

I work for a TV network and some of our ENG lenses take filters that size. Actually very common size in the TV industry.
