    Re: Tortured Bodies

I have read Paul Outerbridge would shoot 8X10 Kodachromes of nudes, but when sent to Kodak for processing, they returned the processed chromes, but the hair had been retouched out (well), but seemed more unnatural without (and potentially more "pornographic" as even more "nude")... :0

...but did Kodak have an established policy that such retouching would be performed? If not, I'd have sued!

LOL. and not the state police trying to arrest him !

I knew people who were reported on by some lab and .. well, lets just say it didn't end in a cigar, a wink and a back slap ..
they had their kid taken away from them for a period of time, and were on national news. she's a lawyer now(too) from what I remember .

The question about art and pornography has persisted for a long time and will likely continue due to changing tastes and cultural mores.

The surrealist Hans Bellmer shot a series of photographs of Unic Zurn nude bound with rope that are disturbing, tortured, possibly pornographic...They defamiliarize, and to a great degree dehumanize, the physical body.

It wa hte US Mail that rejected images with so much as a single pubic hair visible. Thus the magazines had no choice.

Mortensen could have, and probably did, write the book on hair removal...
